HCI International 2022

26 June - 1 July 2022 - Held virtually

HCI International 2022, the 24th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, was held from 26 June to 1 July 2022 under the auspices of 21 distinguished international boards of 524 Members from 63 Countries. The conference was planned to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and with everyone’s health and safety in mind, HCII2022 was run as a virtual conference.

This year, the impressive number of 2,264 individuals from 71 countries registered to participate in this truly international in scope event, where the work of world leaders in the field was presented.

The conference program, which included 306 parallel sessions and 23 tutorials, was adapted to suit the needs of its virtual format. The conference started and ended at a different time each day allowing participants from different time zones to join the conference during time-periods which, for some of the time, were more convenient for them, taking particularly into account - to the extent possible - the 'time-zone' of the presenters.

HCII 2022 also hosted three workshops:

Ben Shneiderman, Emeritus Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Founding Director (1983-2000) of the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory at the University of Maryland, joined us as the keynote speaker at the plenary session. His keynote entitled: "Human-Centered AI: A New Synthesis" was also his acceptance speech for the HCII 2022 award ‘HCI Medal for Societal Impact’.

The Student Design Competition took place again this year. A distinguished seven-member international committee, acting as the jury to select three award winners, evaluated accepted submissions. The three awards were conferred during the Opening Plenary Session along with three prizes, the GOLD received the prize of $1000 USD, the SILVER of $500 USD and the BRONZE of $250 USD. All accepted submissions were presented during the conference.

Also this year, the HCII Conference established a long-term collaboration with the World Usability Initiative (WUI), founded and directed by Elizabeth Rosenzweig, by sponsoring the Design Challenge 2021 awards. The theme of the 2021 challenge was "Design of our Online World: Trust, Ethics, and Integrity" and the award winners were announced on World Usability Day, November 10, 2021. During the HCII 2022 Opening Plenary Session, the three awards sponsored by HCII (Gold $1250, Silver $1000 and Bronze $750), were conferred to the winners.

We would like to thank each and every one of the Conference participants for their valuable contribution towards the success of this Conference.
